Henley Gate presents a unique opportunity for a landscape-led masterplan, featuring a new public park as a component of the larger Ipswich Garden Suburb. This suburb encompasses three development zones that will collectively provide up to 3,500 homes.

The new garden suburb connects Ipswich with the proposed country park and further to the countryside. PRP, as masterplanner and architect, secured outline consent for 1,100 homes, a local centre, a primary school and a country park in 2016. This work has since then been supplemented with the delivery of an overarching design code alongside a detailed first phase design code.

PRP’s strong masterplan concept incorporates major landscape links and open spaces that tie the local centre and village green with the new country park, north of the development area. The landscape strategy celebrates the area’s landscape heritage by reconnecting lost hedgerows that naturally divide the neighbourhood into smaller character areas accompanied by significant new planting.
