Planning permission has been granted for the regeneration of Stevenage town centre, following positive review by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. PRP provided the outline masterplan and detailed first phase regeneration for client Mace.

The new development, called SG1, will cover 14.5 acres of the town centre and introduce 11 new buildings including residential, leisure, community, commercial and retail facilities.

With a focus on inclusivity, environmental sustainability and wellbeing, SG1 will create attractive new streets, squares and public realm as well as improving pedestrian and cycle connections across the town.

Robert High, Associate Director at PRP said: “SG1 will breathe new life into the UK’s first new town, building on its important mid-century heritage. It will bring much needed new community facilities, homes and public spaces to give Stevenage a confident outlook for its future. The planning approval represents a major milestone for what has been a collaborative approach with significant input from the local community and many different stakeholders.”
