Planning permission has been granted for 212 new homes at Montem Lane, Slough. Designed by PRP for Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), Montem Lane comprises a range of apartments and family homes helping to meet the need for affordable, high quality homes within the borough.

Located on the edge of the town centre, the PRP designed scheme consists of one and two-bedroom apartments arranged over 11 blocks of three and four storeys and includes a range family houses. 20 per cent of the new homes are for affordable housing.

The proposed masterplan envisages three distinct but complimentary character areas. These include a series of landscaped pavilions to the south and an urban area to the north, as well as a large central village green and associated amenity space for prospective residents and the wider local community to enjoy. The scheme has been designed to increase biodiversity across the site and improve connectivity to Chalvey Brook.

The layout and design of the proposed scheme has been developed with consideration of the local context of the site including its landscape setting and local historical features, including Montem Mound. The use of the London vernacular and the palette of bricks used throughout have been carefully selected to reflect the three character areas whilst also being in keeping with the surrounding context.

Stephen Walker, Associate at PRP, said: “This is a major step in the regeneration of Slough and paves the way for more quality homes for local people. We have designed a greener, sustainable and friendly neighbourhood for the local community to enjoy, and look forward to continuing working with SUR on this transformational scheme for Slough and its residents.”

Katy Walker, Senior Development Manager at Slough Urban Renewal said: “This is a great scheme and will really help to rejuvenate the western edge of the town. With a newly refurbished leisure centre in place, this site provides an opportunity to deliver much needed housing for the borough and its residents. In addition to the homes that will be delivered here, we will be incorporating communal spaces, that will be open to the wider community and we will be improving the public realm, for the benefit of all.”

The site forms part of the proposed Chalvey Regeneration Area. In addition to the new homes, SUR plans to deliver communal outside spaces, as well as rejuvenating the woodland area and the much-neglected brook, which runs alongside the site.
